Born and raised in Libby, Montana, Jim grew up with the time and resources he needed to fall in love with nature's beauty. From hiking and camping to hunting and fishing, the area is an absolute outdoor paradise. Being inspired by the outdoors, Jim began developing his artistic talent as a young boy with the encouragement of his family.

After graduating high school, Jim attended Western Montana College in Dillon, Montana on an Art scholarship. During his college years, Jim began to develop his own artistic style and settled on the subject of wildlife, being influenced by artists such as Bob Kuhn and Robert Bateman. Graduating in 1990 with a Degree in Art, Jim taught Art and History for the next five years.

In 1996, Jim was hired by a foundry in Bozeman, Montana where he began his exposure to the world of Bronze. This exposure to art in 3-D expanded his artistic creativity. In 2001, Jim went to work for Art Castings of Montana, a bronze foundry in Belgrade, where he is currently employed.

His artwork has been purchased by people throughout the U.S. and his bronze works are currently being offered in galleries such as Planet Bronze of Bozeman, Montana and The Moosehorn Gallery located in the Paradise Valley, Montana.
